The winner of this award will be chosen based on academic history and extracurricular activities. Financial need will not be considered.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
Graduate-level candidates must currently be in at least their second semester and taking at least two (2) semester-equivalent courses per term at accredited college or university in the United States and majoring in education for the purpose of teaching STEM subjects in a U.S. school in grades K-12 at the time of application.
A current overall GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale in their current program at an accredited U.S. college or university is required at the time of application. Applicants must have completed a B.S. degree in a STEM major.
Credential/licensure candidates must be U.S. citizens with a completed B.S. degree or graduate degree in a STEM major (undergrad/grad transcript required). Must be currently enrolled and have started the program at the time of application.

Two Letters of Recommendation: from faculty in the major of study. Have your references submit their letters of recommendation in pdf form via email to edfoundation@afcea.org.

If currently employed as a teacher: one additional letter of recommendation from your school principal.
The Journalism Education Association sponsors up to two $1,000 scholarships for education majors who intend to teach scholastic journalism. Each recipient must be a college junior, senior or master’s degree student in a program designed to prepare him/her for teaching at the secondary-school level. Current secondary-school journalism teachers who are in a degree program to improve their journalism teaching skills also are eligible.

Each recipient must complete the application and include the following:
A 250-word essay explaining his/her desire to teach high school journalism.
The answers to the three questions at the bottom of the application form.
Two recommendation letters, preferably from those who have firsthand knowledge of his/her work with student journalists, and
College transcript(s) showing academic standing.
The National Latin Exam offers a $2000 Graduate School Scholarship which is specifically for “graduate study leading to the teaching of Latin and/or Greek at the elementary, intermediate, or high school level.” It is with great pride that we name this scholarship in honor of Sally Davis, one of the original members of the Writing Committee of the NLE. The National Latin Exam Sally R. Davis Graduate School Scholarship is a one-time $2000 scholarship awarded for post-graduate study that leads to the teaching of Latin and/or Greek at the elementary, intermediate, or high school level. Applicants must be college seniors or other professionals who are seeking a graduate degree.
Are not required to have taken the National Latin Exam
May be a high school senior or undergraduate, or enrolled in a master’s degree program.
Must be planning to teach Latin at the K-12 levels.
May not apply for this scholarship if currently receiving another National Latin Exam award.

A maximum of ten $2000 scholarships are given each spring.
• The application deadline is February 15th.
• Each scholarship is renewable for however long the recipient is a student enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program with the intention of teaching Latin at the K-12 level. The maximum funding is four years for a bachelor’s degree and two years for a master’s degree (exceptions at the discretion of the scholarship committee).
• The NLE will cover the cost of attending one American Classical League Institute occurring from the end of their junior year in college through their third year of teaching (or a similar professional development opportunity should recipients live outside the U.S.). • Recipients will be offered informal mentoring by experienced Latin teachers for the first three years of teaching upon request.
Be accepted into, and maintain enrollment in, a PESB-approved teacher preparation program leading to an initial teacher certificate (generally the applicant will be enrolled as a junior or senior in undergraduate studies or graduate school.)
Intend to pursue an initial teacher certificate with an endorsement in a shortage area.
