Smith & Weer Community Advocate Scholarship

Eligibility

  • This scholarship is open to any student currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program in the United States. This includes accredited community college students; and high school seniors and students who possess a GED; who have been accepted to or enrolled in an accredited program.
  • The scholarship applicant must be able to demonstrate a commitment to helping people in their community as demonstrated by past and present, volunteer, professional or work, and educational experience.
  • All eligible candidates must be in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above.

All applications must be submitted by May 15, 2018. Winner will be announced June 15, 2018.

How to Apply

  • Submit a 1,000 word maximum essay describing a problem in your community that has made you feel the need to advocate for people who live here.
    • How has this informed your sense of commitment to helping people in this community?
    • In what ways have you already begun to try to solve this problem?
    • How are your current education goals helping to prepare you to have a job, career, and/or do volunteer work, that will allow you to continue to help people in your community?
  • Submit an updated resume
  • Submit your current unofficial transcript
