National Merit Scholarship

Full Tuition Waiver

Renewable for Three Additional Years

You’re eligible for a National Merit Scholarship if you’re identified as a semifinalist by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation and you are admitted to WSU Pullman.

• You must enroll at WSU Pullman in the fall semester immediately following your high school graduation.
• Tuition awards valid for up to 18 credit hours per semester.
• Recipients of a National Merit Scholarship Corporate Sponsored award will have the amount of their scholarship reduced by the amount of the corporate award, so that it will not exceed the amount of tuition.
• The National Merit Scholarship cannot be combined with the Regents Scholar award, the University Achievement Award, the Cougar Academic Award, or the Visitation Award.
• Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, and transfer students are not eligible for this award.

Please note: If you have been enrolled previously at WSU (other than as part of a Running Start program) or are entering WSU as a transfer student, you are not eligible for this award.

To qualify for renewal:

• Be in good academic standing.
• Remain enrolled full-time on the Pullman campus.

In some circumstances, you may be able to retain your scholarship after leaving the university; check WSU readmission requirements. You must request a scholarship deferment from the Student Financial Services prior to your enrollment discontinuation.

Glenn Terrell Presidential Award

$4,000

Renewable for 3 Additional Years (Freshman), 2 Additional Years (Transfer)

Selection is competitive based on academic strength and submission of the WSU General Scholarship Application.

Eligibility:

• Apply for admission and scholarships by May 1.
• Enter WSU as an incoming freshman or transfer student.

To qualify for renewal:

• Complete 24 credits per academic year.
• Maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

WUE Distinguished Cougar Award

$15,000

Renewable for 3 Additional Years

Awarded to non-resident first-year students. Qualified students receive the award automatically, and are notified upon their offer of admission to WSU. No additional action or forms are required for consideration.

Eligibility:

• Have a cumulative unweighted high school GPA between 3.7 and 4.0
• Be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. outside the state of Washington
• Enroll at the Pullman campus as a first-time, first-year or transfer student
• Be charged non-resident tuition

Transfer Students

Required transfer GPA: 3.7 – 4.0

If transferring with fewer than 26 credits: 3.7 – 4.0 G.P.A. plus 3.0 high school G.P.A.

WUE Cougar Award

$12,000

Renewable for 3 Additional Years

Awarded to non-resident first-year students. Qualified students receive the award automatically, and are notified upon their offer of admission to WSU. No additional action or forms are required for consideration.

To receive the award, you must also:

• Have a cumulative unweighted high school GPA between 3.0 and 3.69
• Be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.
• Be a resident outside the state of Washington and charged non-resident tuition
• Enroll at the Pullman campus as a first-time, first-year or transfer student

Transfer Students

Required transfer GPA: 3.0 – 3.69

If transferring with fewer than 26 credits: 3.0 – 3.69 G.P.A. plus 3.0 high school G.P.A.

International Merit Award

Tuition Waiver ($4,000)

Renewable for 3 Additional Years (Freshman), 2 Additional Years (Transfer)

Offered to degree-seeing undergraduate students on F-1 visas currently attending the Pullman campus who meet at least 1 of the following criteria:

• Cumulative GPA of 3.60 or above with a minimum of 12 WSU credits, or
• Unusual service to the university or community in the last 2 years, or
• Other extraordinary work or achievement in the last 2 years

International Academic Award

Tuition Waiver (Level 1: $4,000, Level 2: $2,000)

International Programs automatically awards these scholarships to qualifying students who are offered admission.

• Level 1: Cumulative GPA of 3.60 or higher
• Level 2:  Cumulative GPA of 3.0 to 3.59

To qualify for renewal:

• Maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average by the end of spring semester
• Maintain 12 credits each semester, or complete 24 semester credits by the end of spring semester
• Maintain non-resident degree-seeking student status

When offered a scholarship, whether by a WSU department or an outside organization, students are required to receive approval from the athletic compliance team.  Please use the appropriate form below to complete this process. You can read more about this in the Athletic Aid Reference Guide above.

Army ROTC

Location: Washington State University, Pullman

Scholarship: Full Tuition and Fee coverage OR $10,000 per year to cover Room and Board

Other Benefits: $1200 per year book stipend; $420 per month allowance

Commitment:

• Four Year Scholarship: Four years full-time as an Army Officer then extend for four years or serve four years with the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR)
• Two or Three Year Scholarships: Four years mandatory service

Navy ROTC

Location: University of Idaho, Moscow

Scholarship: Full Tuition and Mandatory Fees (no Room and Board)

Other Benefits: $750 per year book stipend; escalating ($250–$400) per month allowance

Commitment:

• Navy Option: Minimum five years active duty with additional requirements depending on job assignment
• Marine Corps Option: Minimum four years active duty
• Navy Nurse Corps Option: Minimum four years active duty

Air Force ROTC

Location: Washington State University, Pullman

Scholarship: Covers tuition, books, and fees. Amounts vary by scholarship type.

• Type 1: Full Tuition
• Type 2: Capped at $18,000 per year ($9000 per semester)
• Type 7: Capped at in-state tuition rate.

Other Benefits: $300–$500 monthly stipend for contracted cadets dependent on cadet’s program level.

Commitment:

• Service commitment is typically four years and varies by career.
