Distinguished Award Criteria
The University considers the following factors:
- Academic achievement: Exceptional academic achievement is extremely important. Most students who win these scholarships earn an excellent high school GPA (unweighted) after six semesters. GPA is considered when qualifying and awarding a Regents Scholar award.
- Community, civic, and co-curricular involvement: The WSU scholarship application includes short essays and allows students the opportunity to present their unique experiences and accomplishments in these areas.
- Academic Reference: This section is part of the online student nomination form and is provided by the nominating school. The Academic Reference allows the nominator to summarize a student’s achievements and future potential. The Academic Reference can make a significant difference in the awarding process. The student nomination form can be submitted by any high school teacher, counselor, or representative who knows the student well. Students should not submit separate letters of recommendation.
$4,000 per year
