Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund

Eligibility

  • An entering or returning student at an accredited undergraduate institution in the United States and must be enrolled full-time (at least 12 hours).
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree (BA, BS, BFA, BSN for example) for the first time. Students in one-year or two-year certificate or associate’s degree programs do not qualify. Students in five-plus year programs ending in a master’s degree or beyond may apply for the first four (undergraduate) years of their programs.
  • A United States citizen or noncitizen who has a current lawful presence in the United States and employment authorization.
  • A permanent resident of a New England state: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island or Vermont.
  • An EFC (Expected Family Contribution) from the FAFSA Student Aid Report that is $10,000 or less (contact staff@spscholars.org if your EFC is greater than $10,000 but you believe there are extenuating financial circumstances)
  • Financial unmet need of $7,000 or more at the college of their choice as determined by the Financial Eligibility Calculator
  • A low to moderate parent Adjusted Gross Income (AGI)

The Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund offers renewable, four-year scholarships to students with financial need who display academic achievement, a commitment to serving others (in school, their community, or at home), a strong work ethic, and leadership qualities.

Mrs. Patty Shinseki Scholarship Program for Army Spouses

Eligibility

  • Student must be a dependent Spouse and registered as the Spouse of the Soldier in DEERS (Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System).
  • Student must be pursuing their first undergraduate degree as a full-time or part-time student in an accredited post-secondary or vocational institution listed in the US Department of Education’s Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions (http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Search.aspx).
  • Those pursing a second bachelor’s degree may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Scholarship cannot be used for graduate level courses.
  • Student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 grading scale.
  • Student must not be active duty or in a reserve component or a retiree of the Army, National Guard, Reserves, or other military branch.
  • Because financial need is already met, students attending Military Service Academies are not eligible.

  • The Mrs. Patty Shinseki Spouse Scholarship Program provides Spouses of active duty or retired Soldiers, and widows(ers) of Soldiers who died either on active duty or in a retired status, with financial assistance to pursue their first undergraduate college degree.
  • Spouses of National Guard/Reserve Soldiers activated on Title 10 Orders are also eligible. Spouses of Soldiers who have separated from the Army without retiring are not eligible.
  • Mrs. Patty Shinseki Spouse Scholarship Program offers scholarships based solely on financial need as evidenced by the Student Aid Report (SAR) generated after the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is completed. See the FAFSA instructions on the AER website for further guidance.
  • Mrs. Patty Shinseki Spouse Scholarship Program is not an entitlement or automatically approved. Award amounts are not guaranteed from year to year and are based on the scholarship budget, total number of applications received, and the student’s enrollment for each term (full time or part time). Note: After the initial scholarship award amount is calculated, the amount may be decreased if the applicant’s enrollment changes from full time to part time. However, due to budget constraints, the applicant’s award amount will not necessarily
    be increased if the applicant’s enrollment changes from part time to full time.
  • Scholarships will be awarded for up to four academic years for full-time students, or eight academic years for part-time students. However, students must reapply each year.
  • The scholarship funds are awarded and mailed or electronically transmitted directly to the schools, prior to each term, and are to assist with tuition, fees, books, and supplies.

Maj. Gen. James Ursano Scholarship Program

Eligibility

  • Student must be a dependent of a Soldier on federal active duty, a retired Soldier, or a deceased active or deceased retired Soldier. Children of National Guard/Reserve Soldiers are eligible if the Soldier is on Title 10 Orders for the entire academic year.
  • Student must be registered as a dependent of the Soldier in DEERS (Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System).
  • Student must be under the age of 24 (eligibility ends at the end of the semester/term in which the student reaches their 24th birthday. Example – turning 24 in December would mean the scholarship would be awarded for fall term ONLY.)
  • Student must remain unmarried for the entire academic year.
  • Student must not be a member of the National Guard, Reserves, or other military branch.
  • Student must be enrolled, accepted, or pending acceptance as a full-time student in an accredited post-secondary or vocational institution listed in the US Department of Education’s Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions (http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Search.aspx).
  • Because financial need is already met, students attending Military Service Academies are not eligible.
  • Student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.

  • The MG James Ursano Scholarship Program offers scholarships based solely on financial need as evidenced by the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) reported on the Student Aid Report (SAR) from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • The MG James Ursano Scholarship Program is not an entitlement and applications are not automatically approved. Students must reapply each year and are eligible to receive funds for up to four academic years of full-time enrollment.
  • Award amounts vary and are not guaranteed year to year. Award amounts are determined based on the total budget allotted, the number of applications received, and each applicant’s Expected Family Contribution (EFC) reported on the SAR.
  • The MG James Ursano Scholarship will not be awarded for second bachelor’s degrees or for graduate degree programs.
  • The scholarship funds are mailed or transmitted electronically directly to the school prior to each academic term and may be used for tuition, fees, books, supplies, and school room and board (either on or off campus).
  • Any MG James Ursano Scholarship recipient who also receives funding from other sources (i.e., GI Bill, scholarships, VA benefits, etc.) may not be eligible to receive their full scholarship from AER. The Financial Aid Office at each school will determine the recipient’s final eligibility based on the student’s complete financial aid package. No student can receive funding above the school’s established Cost of Attendance – once all costs are covered, the school must return any remaining funds to AER

 

Clark E. DeHaven Scholarship

Eligibility

  • You must be enrolled in a college or university that is a member of NACUFS.
  • You must be enrolled full-time, be in good standing, and have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.
  • You must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen and attend college in the U.S. or Canada during the scholarship award year.
  • You must be a current sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in a foodservice related field and are planning a career in the foodservice industry.
  • you must have at least one semester of school remaining, beginning fall semester 2022, before graduation.

More Details

The scholarship is intended for use during the traditional academic year (fall through spring) for academic purposes such as tuition, fees, room and board, or books. Scholarships will be awarded for full-time undergraduate study only.

Don’t Text & Drive Undergrad Scholarship

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be high school seniors that are graduating in summer 2023; or
  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in a university for the start of the fall 2022 semester.

More Details

  • Students will design an advertisement to educate people on the dangers of distracted driving, while including a bit of humor or irony in the ad. This is a creative opportunity where students can create a billboard, commercial, radio ad, or poster to name a few mediums.
  • Students will also aim to convince people not to text and drive, drink and drive, eat and drive, or get caught up in any other distraction while driving in their messaging or ad copy.

Truck Accident Awareness Scholarship

Eligibility

  • 3.0 or higher GPA (unofficial transcript must accompany the application)
  • Admitted to or enrolled in an accredited college/university or graduate school
  • Be a United States citizen or otherwise authorized to work or attend school in the United States
  • Write and submit a 1,000- to 1,500-word original essay on the proposed topic (see below)

Scholarship Essay Topic

Write an original public safety announcement (between 1,000 to 1,500 words) that a) raises awareness of the current climate concerning commercial truck accidents and b) proposes a creative way to increase road safety here in Ohio and throughout our nation.

Once your essay is complete:

  1. Fill out the application form
  2. Upload a copy of your unofficial transcript
  3. Upload a copy of your scholarship essay
  4. Submit proof of enrollment/acceptance to an accredited college/ university/ graduate school (Student ID; Letter of acceptance; etc.)

Cove Smart Scholarship

Eligibility

  • U.S. citizens
  • currently enrolled in an accredited 2- or 4-year university or college in the United States.

Applicants will fill out the form with the requested personal and educational information. They will also upload a 300–400 word essay and a 30–60 second video following the prompts provided. Once the deadline has passed, the selection committee will review all applications and contact the winner by July 31, 2023.

One award of $3,000 will be awarded annually as a lump sum.

Any scholarship funds awarded are to be used for tuition and books only. A check will be written to the recipient’s school of choice and will then be credited toward academic costs. This scholarship is non-renewable, and a recipient may only receive this scholarship once.

 

Gerber & Holder Scholarship Essay

Eligibility

• Be currently enrolled in classes with a valid student ID at a U.S College or University.
• Be a U.S. resident or resident alien.

• Show that you have read and understand the contest rules by signing the application form and sending us a scanned copy with
your signature.
• Include your original essay for the current scholarship.
• Include a photo of yourself along with a brief bio with your submission.
• Confirm written materials submitted are unique (not submitted elsewhere), original and your own creation.

Essay Question

Should an employee be allowed to sue an employer in certain instances, should the willful misconduct exclusion be eliminated?  Why or why not? (300-500 words)

Leadership Excellence Scholarship

Eligibility

  • The student is currently or will be in the future a member of their university’s Greek life OR honors program.
  • The student achieved a 3.0 GPA or higher in their most recently completed academic semester.
  • The student is currently attending college as an undergraduate student at an accredited college or university within the United States for the upcoming semester. At this time, we are not accepting applications from prospective college students or graduate students.
  • The student will be at least 18 years of age upon distribution of the award.

More Details

We ask each student applying for our scholarship to answer the question below. The student’s answer can be in the form of an essay of 500-1000 words or a video of 4 minutes or less.

Many leaders have certain traits in common. For instance, leaders are often capable of inspiring others, they may be effective delegators, and they are likely to be confident and committed to achieving their goals. In your opinion, what are the best qualities of a leader? Which of your own traits have helped you to become a better leader?

Each applicant must also submit proof of enrollment, documentation of their grade point average, and consent to publish their essay.
