If you are an undocumented student who qualifies as a Washington resident, one of the most important steps to complete every year is your Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA). Completing this application enables you to be considered for the Washington College Grant, as well as other state and institutional sources. Funding sources for undocumented students are limited, so make sure to pay attention to the dates and deadlines related to the WASFA and financial aid to ensure you receive your maximum financial aid package.
Dates and deadlines
- October 1: WASFA opens
- November 30: WASFA priority deadline for current WSU students
- January 31: WASFA priority deadline for new WSU students
- February 15: Current student requested documents deadline.
- March 15: New student requested documents deadline
Be sure to meet the January 31 priority deadline and March 15 application deadline for WSU admission. We cannot process your WASFA application until your admission application is complete.
While our office processes your WASFA application we highly encourage you to keep an eye out on your myWSU email and account for additional document requests by our office. Without the submission of these documents, your application will not be processed.
The deadline to turn in the requested documentation is February 15 for current students and March 15 for new students.
If this deadline is missed, your WASFA will not be processed.
Renewing your application
Once you have filled a WASFA, the following year’s application is much simpler. You will need to log in to your account and update your existing WASFA information for the upcoming academic year.
The first step you will need to complete in order to fill out you WASFA application is creating an account through ReadySetGrad. By doing this you will be able to access the WASFA application every year as well as make any edits as needed. Once your account has been created you may begin to fill out your WASFA. Applications for the 2020-2021 academic year are available for completion on October 1st, 2019. If you are currently not a student at WSU, remember you must submit an admissions application to WSU by January 31st for your WASFA to be processed.
Keep in mind that your WASFA will be used for the entire academic year. So, for example, the 2019-2020 WASFA is used for Fall 2019, Spring 2020 and Summer 2020. If you have any questions as to which academic period to file, contact the Student Financial Services office on your WSU campus.
If you missed the submission deadlines, you maybe disqualified from specific grant funding.
If extenuating circumstances prevented you from meeting the deadline for completing your WASFA or submitting additional documents, contact your campus’ SFS office for information on the appeal process. Please understand that this appeal does not guarantee that your application will be considered “On-Time”.
