Completing your WASFA application

If you are an undocumented student who qualifies as a Washington resident, one of the most important steps to complete every year is your Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA). Completing this application enables you to be considered for the Washington College Grant, as well as other state and institutional sources. Funding sources for undocumented students are limited, so make sure to pay attention to the dates and deadlines related to the WASFA and financial aid to ensure you receive your maximum financial aid package.

WSU Priority Dates and Deadlines

Due to the most recent announcement by the U.S. Department of Education (ED) on further delays for institutions to begin receiving applicant data, WSU has extended our 2024-2025 priority dates and deadlines. Our goal is to provide flexibility to students and families with the assurance that we stand ready to assist with navigating unforeseen delays. Below are the updated priority dates and deadlines:
  • December: FAFSA Opens
  • Early January: WASFA Opens
  • May 1: WSU General Scholarship Deadline *
  • June 1: FAFSA/WASFA priority date for new & current WSU students
  • July 31: Additional Documentation priority date for new & current WSU students
  • December 1st: Additional Documentation priority date for new & current WSU students attending Spring 2025

Document submission

While our office processes your WASFA application we highly encourage you to keep an eye out on your myWSU email and account for additional document requests by our office. Without the submission of these documents, your application will not be processed.

The deadline to turn in the requested documentation is July 31st for current and new students.
If this deadline is missed, your WASFA will not be processed.

Renewing your application

Once you have filled a WASFA, the following year’s application is much simpler. You will need to log in to your account and update your existing WASFA information for the upcoming academic year.

First-time filers

The first step you will need to complete in order to fill out you WASFA application is creating an account through WSAC. By doing this you will be able to access the WASFA application every year as well as make any edits as needed. Once your account has been created you may begin to fill out your WASFA. Applications for the academic year are available for completion early Fall. If you are currently not a student at WSU, remember you must submit an admissions application to WSU by our priority deadline for your WASFA to be processed.

Keep in mind that your WASFA will be used for the entire academic year. So, for example, the 2019-2020 WASFA is used for Fall 2019, Spring 2020 and Summer 2020. If you have any questions as to which academic period to file, contact the Student Financial Services office on your WSU campus.

Late filers

If you missed the submission deadlines, you maybe disqualified from specific grant funding.

If extenuating circumstances prevented you from meeting the deadline for completing your WASFA or submitting additional documents, contact your campus’ SFS office for information on the appeal process. Please understand that this appeal does not guarantee that your application will be considered “On-Time”.
