Winter Session

Overview

Winter session courses are available to all enrolled WSU students, including students attending a branch campus. All the courses are online. Students can take only one course, due to the time commitment required. It is important to know that adding or dropping winter session courses can effect your financial aid.

2024 Tuition

Winter courses are not included as part of the full-time fall semester tuition; Winter Session tuition is charged in addition to fall tuition. Winter Session courses are $595.05 per credit for undergraduates, and $682.55 per credit for graduate students, resident and non-resident. These charges will appear separately from your fall tuition on your student account, and will have a separate due date.

Pay Winter Session 2024 tuition in myWSU by the following dates:

  • Dec. 18 for 3-week courses
  • Dec. 1 for 6-week courses

Winter Session course fees cannot be paid by tuition waiver exemptions as these courses are self-sustaining (not funded by state funds) and fully dependent on fees to cover the cost of instruction. Fee waivers authorized under RCW 28B.15.910 apply only to state supported courses.

For information about registration, visit Winter Session Information.

Financial Aid Options

WSU students may be eligible for loans (Direct, PLUS or private) for Winter Session depending on the financial aid already awarded to them for the academic year, specifically for Fall semester. Students do not receive aid specific to Winter Session. Students can complete an Academic Revision Request for “Special Fees” and select “Winter session Tuition” to have their budget increased to allow room for additional aid if available.

If a student does not have any remaining eligibility in the form of Direct or PLUS loans they have the option to seek a private loan to pay for Winter Session. Students must be approved for a private loan by their lender at least 10 business days prior to the start of the session to ensure private loan funds are delivered to their account prior to the Winter Session tuition due date.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I drop a Winter Session course?

If you enrolled before census and dropped the course after census, your grant aid may be reduced to reflect your new enrollment level.

I added a Winter Session course after my aid already disbursed. How can I pay for the Winter Session charges?

There is no aid specifically for winter session. If you have remaining grant or loan eligibility from the fall semester, it will be applied to your account. You will be responsible for paying any remaining charges.
